Effective Leadership Through Communication

In his article ”Effective Leadership Through Communication” Mike Jansen presents his experiences as a leader of development teams. I really like them as they are very close to my attitude as a Scrum Master.

Especially, I like his observation:

The switch between developer and project lead can be difficult. Leads often come from the ranks of the strongest developers, but the skill set required from a lead is very different from the set exercised on a regular basis for a developer, especially in the realm of communication.

The best programmer is not necessarily the best team leader. This is very important for companies, because they need to realize that promotion is not always the best way to reward excellence.
